Is my deadline set by where I live or where the property is?
Where the property is. If you live in London but your rental property is in Birmingham, you must meet the West Midlands deadline.
What if my properties are in different areas?
Each property has the deadline of its own area. Enter all your postcodes at once, separated by commas or new lines, to see every date.
What happens after the deadline?
If you let or advertise a property before it is registered, the council can give you a civil penalty of up to £7,000. A landlord in breach of the duty to register also cannot get a possession order, except on ground 7A or ground 14.
Does the PRS Database cover Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland?
No. The PRS Database is for England. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own landlord registration schemes. The checker tells you when a postcode is outside England.
Where does the area for each postcode come from?
From postcodes.io, a free service built on Office for National Statistics postcode data. The area dates come from the government’s Housing Hub page.
